Annual closure of the Thames Barrier

Head down to the River Thames this Sunday, September 9, to see the test closure of the famous barrier.
Built between 1974 - 1984, the Thames Barrier is the world's second largest movable flood barrier and is used for flood control on the River Thames.
Measuring 523 metres in width across the stretch of the river, the barrier divides the river into four 61m and two 31m navigable spans and four smaller non-navigable channels between nine concrete piers and two abutments.
